Quinoa pulao is a delicious, healthy, & vegan Indian dish that can be made in just 30 minutes! It’s easy to prepare, full of flavour and spices, as well as original and satisfying. Quinoa pulao is made with quinoa and cooked in a combination of onions, garlic, tomatoes, ginger paste, green chillies (you can adjust the heat to your liking), fresh coriander leaves or cilantro, mint leaves and spices. You will also need 1 cup of water or vegetable stock, 1, Teaspoon of coconut oil or any other cooking oil of your choice, and salt to taste. This versatile dish goes well with all sorts of toppings like onion raita or freshly shredded coconut.
Gather the necessary ingredients:
To create this flavourful Pulao, You will need
Quinoa,
Vegetable oil,
Cloves,
Cardamom pods,
Cinnamon sticks,
Cumin seeds,
Turmeric powder,
Garam masala powder,
Ginger-garlic paste,
Green chillies,
Tomato purees or diced tomatoes,
Fresh/frozen peas or mixed vegetables of your choice along with the necessary salt for seasoning.
All ingredients” can be found in any local grocery store.
How to prepare Quinoa Pulao:
1 Once these items are gathered, it’s time to start prepping the quinoa pulao.
2 Begin by rinsing ½ cup of quinoa under cold running water, & draining the excess water in a fine-meshed sieve. In a large pan or pot, heat 2, Tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium heat.
3 Add in cloves, cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks and cumin seeds; cook until fragrant, stirring occasionally.
4 Next, add 1, Teaspoon of ginger garlic paste and sauté for 1-2 minutes or until lightly golden brown.
5 Now add turmeric powder, & garam masala powder and stir to combine with other spices.
6 Add tomato puree or diced tomatoes and season with salt if desired. Cook until tomatoes become soft and tender before adding fresh/frozen peas or mixed vegetables that have been pre-cooked according to the instructions on the package label.
7 Finally, add the rinsed quinoa & the appropriate amount of boiling water to cover all ingredients – usually about ½ cup of water will do for a single portion serving, Cover the pan tightly with a lid and reduce heat to low-medium heat level for 15 minutes or until all liquid has been absorbed by the quinoa grains.
8 Quinoa pulao is ready to serve.
